A couple weeks ago, Kelsie Gibson of Green Alley Salon invited Miss United States 2012 Whitney Miller to showcase the salon’s new line of extensions, Ron King’s Invisi-Tab. Alli Wilkinson, the owner of Green Alley, invited me to film the process of applying this top-of-the-line product and Sherry Hammonds photographed the experience from start to finish.

Kristen Coleman, a stylist at Green Alley Salon, worked with Kelsie as they colored Whitney’s hair, washed it, dried it, then applied the Invisi-Tab extensions. Russell Vargo also captured behind-the-scenes footage and photos of the technique demonstrated at Green Alley that day. Austin, Texas is a great place to tie the knot – Rosalie and Zuber did not hesitate to use the city as the background for their wedding. I was fortunate to be able to videotape their monumental experience at the south-of-downtown location called Green Pastures. With massive live oaks, (and like the name refers to) green pastures, and peacocks, the venue paints a colorful setting with powerful accents of white. That Saturday afternoon, Zuber asked Rosalie to change her name to his family’s: Patel. A small but important crowd of friends and family came to witness their exchange of vows.

I created a video for the two that ran through the day at Green Pastures: the bride gets ready while guests arrive, the ceremony takes place, and the reception is catered with speeches from the family. This is followed by the inevitable send off complete with bubbles and the scent of lavender.

The Captain and Crew

October was a great month for travel as Philip Becker brought a group of his closest friends Southeast to the British Virgin Islands. We stayed on a charted catamaran for 7 nights and finished the trip with a few land days on St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Naturally, I had to take photos and film the entire adventure and I am just now beginning to sift through 48 Gbs of footage to construct a couple different concepts I had thought of while at sea.

The first video will be a collage of our sea excursion, almost a “best of” complete with original music and voice over that compliments the visuals. The first step is laying out my favorite shots in a comprehensive order with a song I’ve selected to give the video some life. Next, we’ll rerecord the music – in fact, a close friend, Sean Renaghan, wants to record some of his own stuff which I’ll carefully adjust the shots to match the new rhythm (we’ll try to keep the tempo similar to the first temporary song).

The next step will be to finish writing the voice over script that Philip and myself are working on drawing from our experiences in the islands and our own perspectives on the trip. We’ll record the sound of a voice talent reading the text and lay it into the video project. This will complete the overall feel of the travel video. My favorite part usually falls last but I’ve already started this process: color correction. This step solidifies the vibrance of the video and gives some character to the images.

Earlier I mentioned two different video concepts. The second video will actually be broken down into 3 episodes and will be constructed chronologically. They will be a bit longer and will feature more content primarily intended for viewing by the crew that went on the trip but I’ll most likely upload it to YouTube so we can all share it with friends and family.

Look for the first video soon, I’ve been juggling this with wedding videos, real estate and everything else I’ve been working on – I like to mix up the projects so I keep it interesting and it helps to dive back into a video with a fresh perspective. I look forward to finishing the British Virgin Islands video and hope you can find some interest in it too!

Finally wrapped up a video shot by a handful of Austinites and friends that got together to explore the Southern world of Peru and Bolivia. 90% of the footage was captured on a GoPro Alexa Muraida carried across borders to record memories that will be shared with the world. As their explorations showed no boundaries, they formed a tight bond that will last the rest of their lives; this was apparent when I met all of them for the first time (although I’ve known Alexa for quite some time) when we screened the video at Margaret Ann‘s house for the travelers, friends, and family.

I want to share with you guys their experience and what they saw as they discovered a new land of adventure. It was a fun time sifting through the footage and understanding how close they were throughout the trip – I could definitely see the group’s growth from the first clip to the last. The video is almost fifteen minutes long so I decided to break it into episodes. PLEASE WATCH IN HD – Here is the first:

This past Saturday, I was lucky enough to go help out at SAMMinistries while they had their “Santa at SAMM” event. It was a chance for families to receive a photo of their children with the legendary Santa Clause. As he landed on top of the SAMM center and stepped off his sled, he told me he felt very privileged to meet all these wonderful kids.

A special thanks goes out to all the people and sponsors that helped out, especially Lorena Pena and Daniel Pruitt for making the event happen. I was excited to capture the occurrence on video and I edited something together a couple days later. Here is the video – I’m glad I got to interview some interesting faces.

Like last time, two Dramatic Ridiculous Philmmakers captured footage (Jacob Wayne Bondesen and Blake Rabe) and two videos were edited with the same footage: Rabe cut a version and Bondesen cut one. Be sure to check out both:

In this above version, Blake used a song that was remixed by a friend – it works as a music video to the track.

In this version, Jacob used copyrighted music for all four minutes despite the second song – one of the DRPers was involved in the track while his Hawaiian Haole boy amigos sang over his guitar.

Different Reels Per filmmaker, you can see the contrast in editing style and even the choices of footage were drastically different at times.

I met Deleigh Hermes at The Heartbreaker Banquet at Willie Nelson’s ranch during SXSW 2012. She was photographing the event while I was doing videography with many other Austin filmmakers.

Shortly after this all day festival, Deleigh won a trip through Costa del Mar sunglasses to Belize in Central America. She was to stay for thirty days with her two trusty sidekick babes, Hannah Carlock and Darlene Robinson who live with her and near her in Austin, Texas. She had a grand idea of filming with a GoPro everyday she was down South and creating 30 days worth of video to show friends, family and the world. She’s been working hard on editing each day into episodes so you gotta check them out!

We created this video below before she left to talk about her goals in the tropics and values as a photographer in Austin living in the “real world” post college. She’s a fellow artist in a worldly city and I hope to work with her soon!

Austin Fashion Week is coming up and Green Alley Salon has teamed up with Michelle Thoreson from Revelry Dresses, Sherry Hammonds from S.H. Photography and Rossi Saenz, an Austin model. Alli Wilkinson, Emily Hobbs, and Kelsie Gibson from Green Alley organized the team.

We got together on the West side of Austin to photograph Rossi with a beautiful, domesticated bobcat for an entry in the Austin Fashion Week Photo contest. The bobcat needed time to get used to all the new smells and new faces but it warmed up to us as we warmed up to the idea of a wild cat prowling around the room.

Today I took photos on Lake Austin of Aric Denton and friends teaching children the art of wakeboarding at a summer camp they do every week. There were a lot of skiers out there too, so can’t leave them out. I wanted to share some of the shots I captured. I go back tomorrow to photograph the kids I wasn’t able to see ski earlier this afternoon.
